Details: left sidebar icons

Left Sidebar Icons

We are obsessed with details here at Push Popcorn. Andrea is actually working on the left sidebar of Records, adding some amazing icons he made with Sketch app from Bohemian Coding, and we made several changes in those days trying to reach the best result we can.

As you can see from the opening screenshot, we added 3 icons to help you identify your databases (book icon) and which ones are stored in a local folder or on your iCloud account (cloud and folder icons). These latter are hidden by default, but simply pressing command+alt keys on your keyboard, they will pop-up, showing you which databases are currently synced across your Macs thanks to iCloud and which ones are only saved locally.

By clicking on these, you will move the selected database from its current location to iCloud or to your local library. It's great because you can control which databases are synced across your Macs, so you don't have to sync all the library if you don't need it.

We are still improving them, but we are pretty proud of the result.

User Interface: The Template Image Button

I recently switched to a full-time position here in Push Popcorn, as Gabriele already told you, in order to speed up the development of Records.

Working from home is the best condition for me; I love working by night and spending much time focusing on details I consider important for Records.

Well, today I want to show you some of these "details".

Since Mac OS X 10.5 is possible to render an image as a template into the NSImage class. This kind of template images have typically been used in Toolbar items and in the bottom side of Mac apps, inside buttons. The final result is an image like this one, with two states and two colors for "normal" (dark gray) and "pressed" (black):

The final result is pretty cool but, for Records, I wanted to improve it a bit more, in order to use different colors, starting from a single PDF black mask representing the image. That's why I rewrote the default template render mimics introducing the template color property.

This is the final result. Honestly? We love it. And you?

Records is growing up. Andrea recently switched to a full-time development and I started spending more time on the project; honestly, we can't wait to give you - at least - a stable Alpha version and to hear your feedbacks about Records.

Every day we love it more.

Today we would like to show you some pics of our "small creature". Yep. Like on a photo album.

A matter of style

A matter of style

It's about 4 months that Pushpopcorn.com website is alive, and we're so glad that everyday we reach new visitors and followers on Twitter. It's not that easy to keep you frequently updated about Records development on this blog (as we always mention, we try to keep it the most "public" we can), but it's great to feel all this love from you guys! Thank you very much, we really appreciate it.

Trying to do our best posting fresh updates about Records, we decided to give a new look to our website, making it more stylish and easy to read. Andrea started sketching this new layout and I immediately loved it, so we realized it in a record time and put it online. We left our previous "black" theme and switched to this light one, what do you think? Leave a comment and let us know!

At the same time, we also moved the whole website to Squarespace, a gorgeous CMS/Hosting platform with everything we need to run this website in a single, reliable system. It's a great solution, totally integrated and full of amazing features. If you're searching for a new way to make your website, you should seriously consider Squarespace as your first choice.

But, what about Records? Well, we have some new screenshots to show you and we uploaded them on our Dribbble account. Later, we'll also publish an article with some details of Records UI (which is getting better everyday!).

For shorter updates, keep following us on Twitter.
